Job Description Job Description GENERAL PURPOSE The internship will provide a comprehensive experience in small to mid-sized museums through observation, job-shadowing, performing tasks, planning, organizing, and implementing programs as well as associated office tasks. REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in museum studies, history, anthropology, or a closely related field. Must be familiar with the use of Microsoft Office with average ability in Word and Excel. Must have good problem solving, organizational, verbal, and written skills. Must be able to interact with the public. Education or experience with collections, PastPerfect, museum education, public speaking, and exhibit design preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Work with curator to develop collection handling, cataloging, and accessioning experience. * Assist Curator with exhibits, labels, and collection projects. * Coordinate and assist with facilitating of various Museum education programming including events, scout groups, school field trips, birthday parties, and tours. * Learn how to greet visitors, assist guests with research and general office tasks as needed. * Acquire knowledge on how to market Museum events and programming through attending marketing meetings, assisting with submitting marketing requests for flyers, posters, newsletters, website updates, social media posts, etc. * Prepare verbal and written reports as required. * Provide a high quality of customer service in a professional manner to the internal customer that will facilitate team building and exceptional customer service to the external customer. * Follow the Wheaton Park District and Museum policies, procedures, and guidelines. * Proactively support the V.A.L.U.E.S. (integrity, fun, commitment, adaptability and growth, kindness, and service) on a daily basis. * Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC None PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to: frequently use a keyboard and computer for long periods of time while remaining in a stationary position; occasionally move about the office to access office equipment and files; and occasionally move about, sometimes on uneven ground, during programs for setup and implementation; and occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs. and over with assistance. Assist in moving and setting tables, chairs and other furniture for rentals and events. ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS Must be able to: consistently work in an office environment with moderate noise and lighting, and may be exposed to dust, mold, and chemicals and occasionally handle seasonal weather conditions; including extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or biting/stinging bugs during outdoor activities or while traveling to other facilities.
